CJTA offers two defensive driver improvement programs to the general public: Alive At 25 and Defensive Driving Course-4. AA25 is a course that targets drivers between the ages of 15 and 25; DDC4 is open to drivers over the age of 25. Both programs were developed by the National Safety Council and are used by some of the courts in San Juan County as diversion programs for first-time traffic offenders.
Alive At 25
Many young drivers attend this course as part of a sentence imposed on them by the San Juan County courts; however, the course is open to any interested person between 15 - 25 years of age. Tuition is $35.00 and is payable on the day of class. Classes are scheduled one Tuesday evening each month.
DDC-4
Many people attend this course as part of a sentence imposed on them by the San Juan County courts; however, the course is open to any interested person. Tuition is $35.00 for either course and is payable on the day of class. Classes are scheduled one evening each month. Early pre-registration is encouraged as classes fill up quickly. Upon completion of a 4-hour course, students receive a Certificate of Completion. For the latest course information you can contact the CJTA office at (505)566-3547 or by e-mail. Please note: DDC-4 does not meet the usual requirements for obtaining a driver's license or insurance reduction because it is only 4 hours in length. |
